Srija Seshadri and Varshini spearhead Bangladesh Police to clinch Walton 1st Division Women's Chess League

Top seed of the tournament, Bangladesh Police scored a perfect 14/14 to win Walton 1st Division Women's Chesss League. WGM Srija Seshadri and WGM Varshini V were the only two Indians taking part in this event. They both scored 7/7 and played a crucial role in their team's first place finish. Second seeded Bangladesh Navy scored 12/14 to secure second place. Third seeded Shahin Chess Club made 10/14 to finish third. The top three prizes were Tk 25000, 15000 and 10000 along with trophy and medals each respectively. Srija and Varshini also won the individual board prize on their respective boards. Top seed dominates with a perfect score

Indian players taking part in various leagues in Bangladesh is quite common. Bangladesh Police has dominated the Bangladesh Premier League for three consecutive editions. At the second edition Women's Chess League, Bangladesh Police fielded the strongest team in the fray. They lived up to their top seed billing and won the tournament convincingly. After winning the first six rounds scoring 4-0 whitewash victories only, in the final round they defeated the defending champion and the eventual runner-up, Bangladesh Navy 2.5-1.5 to clinch the first place.

A total of 45 players including two WGMs and a WIM represented eight different teams in this seven-day seven-round Round Robin Team Rating tournament which was organized by and at Bangladesh Chess Federation from 22nd and 28th March 2023. The time control for the event was 90 minutes + 30 seconds increment from move no.1.
